The city of Amritsar is known for its rich cultural heritage. It is considered as the Mecca for Sikhs for the presence of the Golden Temple, the most significant Sikh shrine in the world. It comprises one of the most significant cities for Sikh religion and has numerous small and large Gurdwaras spread all across the city. Golden Temple:- Harminder Sahib Gurdwara is popularly known as Golden Temple or Swarn Mandir dominates the landscape of Amritsar. The shrine got its name Golden Temple for the roof of the sanctum sanctorum Akal Takht being covered with the plates of Gold.  The communal canteen of the Gurdwara offers food to around 20,000 people on daily basis. The four gates of the shrine on four different corners makes the entry of all devotees without any discrimination.

Jallian Wala Bagh:- Jallian Wala Bagh got associated with the freedom struggle of India when on  the day of Baisakhi in 1919 General Dyer ordered open fire on hundreds of innocent men and women assembled in this small garden for peaceful protest against British Rule in India. The park soon evolved as the symbol of atrocities of Britishers in India.

Harike Pattan Bird Sanctuary:- It is the 2nd largest bird sanctuary in India and receives migratory birds from far off places like Siberia, Europe and Northern Asia for stay during a major part of the year. Around 361 species of birds visit the sanctuary all through the year. The prominent ones being Cotton Pygmy Goose, Tifted Duck, Yellow crowned Woodpecker, Yellow eyed Pigeon, Watercock, Pallas's Gull, Brown headed Gull , Black headed Gull, Yellow legged Gull, Indian Skimmer, White winged Tern, White rumped Vulture, Hen Harrier, Eurasian Sparrow hawk, Eurasian Hobby, Horned Grebe, Black necked Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, White browed Fantail, Brown Shrike, Common Wood shrike, White tailed Stonechat, White crowned Penduline Tit, Rufous vented Prinia, Striated Grass bird, Cetti's Bush Warbler , the Sulphur bellied Warbler and Diving duck etc.

Amritsar experiences three prominent climates. Summers are extremely hot like most of Northern India and it stays between April to June. July marks the onset of monsoon and the heavy downpours continue till September. October onwards the weather remains pleasant for tourism with the outbreak of winter. Gobindwal Sahib:- 30 kms from Chandigarh, Gobindwal Sahib is the mausoleum for Guru Angad Dev Ji.

Attari Border:- A few kms from Amritsar lies the international Border between the hostile neighbors India and Pakistan. Every evening here marks the ceremonial change of Guards and hand shaking ritual from distance apart by the national security forces of both the nations.

Tarn Taran:- 22 kms from Amritsar this lake is associated with Guru Ram Das and is believed to have medicinal properties to cure leprosy. A famous Gurdwara built in architecture similar to Golden Temple stands infront of the lake.

Amanat Khan Serai:- 38 kms from Amritsar, this place is known for its ornamental gateways and glazed tile decorations.
