Weather
Bhopal experiences a humid subtropical climate. The summers begin here from March and continue till June. The climate reaches its peak in May. The weather remains extremely hot in this season with the rise in mercury going beyond 40 °C. The monsoons begin here in July and continues till late Spetember, the rains contribute to increase humidity in the weather. The rise in temperature continues in Bhopal till end of October. The winters begin here from November and stays till March. The weather remains pleasant in this season and it is the most ideal time to visit Bhopal.
In and Around Bhopal
Bhimbetka Caves:- This caves located 45 kms from Bhopal are of immense historical significance. Believed to be 12000 years old, these caves belong to Stone Age Civilization. The murals on these caves, which are over 600 in numbers suggest them to be the dwellings of the primitive man.
Bhojpur:- 28 kms from Bhopal, Bhojpur is famous for the Bhojeswara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple though incomplete exemplifies the temple architecture of 11th-13th centuries.
Panchmarhi:- 195 kms from Bhopal, the forests near Panchmarhi is believed to be the abode for Pandavas during their exile. The groves of Bamboos surrounded by thick forest of Sal makes Panchmarhi an ideal destination to seek tranquility. The rock paintings of the Mahadeo Hills dated 500-600 centuries A.D acts as further icing on the cake.
Sanchi:- Located 45 kms from Bhopal, Sanchi has been the centre for Buddhist architecture between 3rd to 12th Century A.D. The area is covered by many stupas, temples, monasteries and pillars, amongst them lays the famous stupa of Sanchi built by emperor Ashoka which has been declared as a world heritage site today.
Udaygiri:- 5 kms from Vidisha lies the sandstone caves of Udaygiri belonging to the period between 320 to 606 A.D, believed to be built during the reign of Chandragupta II. The 2 caves amongst the 20 are Jain while rest all are Hindu caves. The top of the hill has been crowned with ruins of a 6th century temple belonging to the Gupta period.
