Cuttack the commercial capital of Orissa is a major tourist attraction of the state. The city meaning fort got its name from the nearby Barabati Fort. This city today known for its religious integrity was once the capital of Orissa. Quadam-E-Rasool:- The compound has got three mosques with spectacular domes. The most significant is the one on the centre having the pious footprints of Prophet Mohammed on a circular stone. The followers of Hinduism and Islam both are great venerators of these mosques.

Cuttack experiences primarily three main climates. The summers begin here in April and continue till June. The burning sun prevents sightseeing and excursions. Naraja:- 15 kms from Cuttack this place has got impressive scenic beauty due to the presence of river Mahanadi and Kathjodi. Once famous as a seat for Buddhist culture and learning it has got many images of Buddha.

Ansupa:- 70 kms from Cuttack Ansupa is the site for an exquisite lake visited by scores of migratory birds for their annual wintering. Fishing and boating are one of the activities the tourists can indulge themselves amidst the rippling waves of the Ansupa Lake surrounded by the grooves of Mango and bamboo.

Bhattarika: - 90 kms from Cuttack, this picnic spot with impressive natural beauty is also famous for the temple dedicated to Goddess Bhattarika.

Chandikhol:- 40 kms from Cuttack, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities Chandikhol is a picnic spot surrounded by hills covered with the blanket of greenery.

Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udaygiri:- Falling between a distance of 55-70kms from Cuttack Lalitgiri, Udaygiri and Ratnagiri now in its ruins were once the site of Buddhist Monastery. These hills have got mention as Puspagiri in the accounts of Hieun-T-Sang. The unearthed sculptured stone gateways, the brick temples and the images of Buddha narrate the stature of these sites. The door jambs and magnificently finished statues of Buddha make Ratnagiri posses the highest concentration of Buddhist culture post Gupta period.
