A mesmerizing hill station in Dharamsala, resting on the slopes of Kangra Valley in Himachal, is located amidst the beauty of pine forests. The town is known for having been visited by large number of followers of Dalai Lama.

Sprawling over a startling 8 km of rising slope, Dharamsala town is divided into two parts – Dharamsala and McLeodganj which is the abode of the Buddhists’ spiritual head Dalai Lama. The lower Dharamsala bears several shopping complexes and the upper Dharamsala contains Forsytheganj and McLeodganj serving a colonial township taste.

Lower Dharamsala is located at an altitude of 1,400 mtrs and McLeod Ganj is at about 1,750 mtrs, hence the place is significantly cooler than the plains below. Dharamsala’s temperature in January can go lower than the freezing level, and in June it can be up to 38°C, while in the monsoon Dharamsala gets wet from July to September. Even in March, you may need a heavy winter jacket to survive in Dharamsala. However, mid-may to mid-October is considered as the best time to visit the hill town.

McLeodganj: McLeodganj has been the abode of His Holiness Dalai Lama since 1966. Tibetan culture can be seen and Buddhist chant for prayers can be heard easily at the place which is also known as Lhasa.

Kangra Art Museum: Kangra Art Museum is famous for displaying an original throne of Raja Sansar Chand, a renowned king of Katoch lineage.

War Memorial: War Memorial is a tribute to a number of brave soldiers from the region, who lost their lives in various wars.

Namgyal Monastery: Several complex Buddhist paintings are depicted on the walls of Namgyal Monastery.

Norbulinka Institute:Named after a summer home of Dalai Lama at Lhasa, Norbulinka Institute is the foremost place for preserving and propagating Tibetan art and culture.
