Gangtok the capital of Indian state of Sikkim is a splendid hill station with mystique charms of modernity. One of the cleanliest cities of India, Gangtok which means the hill tops lies in the lower slopes of Himalayas.  It appears as a small city amidst the clouds laden with brown wooden houses, vibrant monasteries and gardens filled with exotic flowers blooming all through the year. Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom:-  This institute located in the heart of the Gangtok city exhibits the hand woven woolen Sikimmese carpet which have a very high demand in the international market for their vibrant colors and unique designs. Available in harmonizing as well as rioting tones, these extremely durable carpets dyed in natural vegetable dyes represent the Sikimmese motifs in them.

Gateways:- The gate ways leading to the Gangtok city have been ornately designed which today represents the splendid caliber of the artists of Sikkim to rest of the world.

Pelling:- Located high on a ridge Pelling captures impressive view of Kanchanjunga on a clear day. The cottage industry here sells pullovers, hats and scarves woven by Sikkimese ladies.

Kechaperi Lake:- Prayers, flags and green hills surround this sacred lake where swimming is strictly prohibited. But it is an ideal location for trekking.

Deer Park:- The Gangtok Deer Park has the statue of Buddha in his preaching posture. Many verities of the Deer family can be seen here. The together with Buddha they are trying to pass the message of peace and friendship amongst the two neighboring nations.

Rumtek Monastery:-  The headquarters of the Kagyu order of Tibetan Lamaistic Buddhism, Rumtek Monastery has paintings and ornate wood works typical of Monastery traditions.

The forested hills, the vibrant monasteries, the aromatic orchids and the warm woolens are synonyms of Gangtok. This pristine hill station on the north eastern part of India is a treasure for tourists. The climate of Gangtok remains pleasant all through the year for tourism. The summers here begin from March and remains till May. The weather remains extremely pleasant during this season making Gangtok a summer resort. The rains are experienced here between June to September. The entire valley though gets covers with a green blanket in this season but the downpours might spoil your tours so it is advisable to avoid visiting Gangtok in these months. The winters outbreak here from October and stays till February. The temperature during these months does not go below freezing point neither the city experiences snowfall which allows you touring Gangtok even during the winters.

 

The Namgyal Institute of Tybetology:-  14 kms from Sikkim, it is the global centre for study of Buddhist philosophy and religion. It has great murals on its walls, ornately carved wooden doors and altars with images of Buddha. It has a rich collection of strolls, tapestry, above two hundred icons, rosary, thangkas, brass bells, masks and images of many Bodisattava and Tantric deities.

Deorali Orchid Sanctuary:- This sanctuary exhibit Orchids, one of the prime attractions of Sikkim is situated below the Namgyal Institute of Tybetology. It has around 450 species of Orchids.

Yumthung Valley:- 140 kms from Gangtok, this valley has got spectacular site to bewilder you, A majestic George, hot springs with rhododendrons blooming all around the valley makes it a splendid attraction for tourists.

Himalayan Zoological park:- 7 kms from Gangtok and located at an altitude of 5840 ft above sea level, Red Panda and Tibetan Wolf are the prime attractions here.
