Gopalpur
Gopalpur is a calm and peaceful beach resort lying in the Ganjam District of the costal state of Orissa. This small but exquisite city has been active since the Kalinga days when it was the richest city and a significant port engaged in trade of pearls and silk with nations like Bali, Java and Sumatra. It was a significant port for Britishers till its separation from Burma in 1942 after which the port has ceased to exist. Today this beautiful beach is a prominent tourist destination for its picturesque serene, mouth watering delicacies and marvelous handicrafts.

Like most of Orissa Gopalpur too experiences three prime climates. The summers begin here from April and stays till June. The burning Sun plays as spoil sport during these months which restricts all the outings on the beach. The rains begin here from July and continue till September. The Octobers bring in the season for tourists. The most pleasant weather is experienced in Gopalpur between the periods from October to March making it the best time to visit Gopalpur.
Chilka Lake:- The famous Chilka lake is just 45 kms from Gopalpur. Chilka has been declared wetlands of International Significance under Ramasar Convention because of the vast treasure of avi fauna and aquatic flora and fauna supported by it. It is the home for the majestic Irrawaddy Dolphins apart from being the wintering ground for the hundreds of migratory birds coming from far off places like Siberia, Iran Afghanistan etc.
Taptapani:- 67 kms from Gopalpur Taptapani is the sight for hot water springs believed to have medicinal properties to skin ailments.
Gopalpur Beach Festival:- An initiative of the Gopalpur Hotel Association Gopalpur beach festival is celebrated annually during the month of December. While it is a great opportunity to know the people of Orissa, the festival days are big occasion to witness the tradition and rich cultural heritage of the state.
