Kasauli

Kasauli is a small hill station falling between Kalka and Shimla. Kasauli is dotted with impressive serene and with aroma of conifers like chestnuts, oak and pine. The cobbled roads and the avenues around remind of the bygone colonial era. Kasauli bear a strong value for neatness. The manicured orchids, the neat green grass lawns of the gardens or the bungalows with trimmed hedges all exemplify the sense of perfection amongst the residence of Kasauli.

The Upper and the Lower Mall:- The main streets of the city are called the Mall. Movement of traffic of any sort is restricted on these roads. They provide spectacular view if the valley amidst the aroma of conifers. The lower mall has avenue covered with chir pines, Himalayan oak and chest-nuts, while cedars cover the Upper Mall. Here the Bungalows built in colonial architecture with charming facades and neatly manicured gardens can be easily noticed.

Research institutes

Little above the Upper Mall lays the Central Research Institute. Known for developing vaccines for ailments like typhoid, cholera, smallpox, and snake-bite, the institute is one of its kinds in Asia. The Pasteur Institute, the TB Sanatorium, TV tower and the Baptist church are the other significant monuments worth watching in this vicinity.

Monkey Point:- Three and a half kms from the city centre lies the highest point of Kasauli called the Monkey Point. It captures impressive views of the Chandigarh town. The small hill is significant as it is believed that Lord Hanumana on his way to get Sanjeevani has stepped his foot on this hill. A small temple of Lord Hanumana crowns the hill top.

Timber Trail:- The prime attraction of Timber Trail is the cable car which connects Timber Trails resort with the Timber Trail heights, traveling a distance of 1.8 kms and a height of 2000 feet. The journey captures impressive view of the valley covered with perennial streams and thick cover of Confers.

Kasauli is at a mere distance of 37 kms from Kalka making it easily accessible via rails. It is at 2 hour drive from Chandigarh and 60 kms from the airport at Shimla. Surrounded by a thick blanket of Deodars and Pines and gabled houses reminder of the colonial era, Kasauli is a picturesque hill station lying in the arms of Himalayas. Its breathtaking serene and bewildering peace makes it an ideal destination for hosting conferences and meetings. It has got some very good hotels and resort which further qualifies it as an ideal conference destination.

The weather of Kasauli remains favorable for tourism all through the year. The summers onset here from March and stays till June. The pleasant weather during these months serves as relief for the tourists coming to Kasauli from the central and southern India. The rains are experienced here between July to September. The downpours cover the entire town with the blanket of greenery and mysticism. Winters begin here from November and remains till February. Though temperature remains just above freezing point in these months the chilling cold has got its own charms for luring the tourists visiting Kasauli in this season.

 

Sanwar:- 5 kms from Kasauli, it is famous for the Lawrence school. Once set up as an orphanage for the British India Army Personnel killed in action, today it lists amongst the best schools in the world. Also worth seeing is the Baba Balak Nath Temple in Sanwar.

Dharampur:- 12 kms from Kasauli, it is the nearest railhead near Kasauli to catch the toy train running between Shimla and Kalka.

Dagsai, Sabathu two small cantonment towns and Bon Monastery are the other significant places of tourist interest near Kasauli.
