Puri was primitively referred by the name of ‘Charitra’. However, later, the name was changed as it was questioned by many a people. Afterwards, in the years of the 12th century, the Puri district received its holy essence of Vaishnavism with stronger impact when Raja Ananta Varman Chodaganga Dev took the initiative of setting the structure of the Jagannath Temple and placing the three gods in its very arena.
